Enduring Power of Attorney Workshop
On Wednesday 12 November 2025, Ready for Living, alongside SP Law and Age Concern, hosted a free Enduring Power of Attorney (EPoA) workshop at the Gore RSA. Presented by SP Law and Age Concern, the session covered what an EPoA is, why it matters, when and how to set one up, and common pitfalls to avoid, along with related topics such as wills and testaments, welfare guardianship through the Welfare Guardian Trust, and scams targeting older people. The workshop was well attended by 42 people from a wide range of ages, professions, and backgrounds, with strong engagement and plenty of questions throughout. Catering was provided with support from the Hokonui Hauora Fund, helping create a warm, relaxed, and lively atmosphere.
The event attracted older community members as well as social workers and health professionals, and was the first of its kind locally, addressing a clear gap in knowledge around EPoA and related legal matters. Participants were encouraged to reflect on their own situations, start conversations with family, and take steps toward getting their affairs in order, supporting peace of mind around welfare, health, and property decisions. The workshop also strengthened connections between Ready for Living, Age Concern, SP Law, and the wider community, with attendees leaving better informed about where to go for guidance and support.
