The MLT Moonshine Trail Race 2025, held on Saturday 15th February, brought 442 participants from Southland, Otago, Canterbury, America, and England together for a day of active recreation at Dolamore Park and Croydon Bush Scenic Reserve. The event featured nine races, including two new additions: a 2km family bike and a 12km mountain bike race, giving participants the chance to explore new trails. The Hokonui Mountain Bike Club supported the event, and feedback highlighted the great atmosphere, accessibility, and opportunity to connect with the natural environment.

With support from the Hokonui Hauora Fund, a free shuttle bus ran from Mataura and Gore to boost youth participation, and it’s planned to continue as part of the new Rangatahi programme next year. The event encouraged physical activity, welcomed 159 first-time participants, and 71 new local riders, while fostering a sense of community. The races also showcased trails developed by the Hokonui Trails Trust, allowing people of all ages and abilities to enjoy a fun and inclusive day outdoors.
