Jukebox Heroes

Jukebox Heroes, held at the St James Theatre on 12 April 2025, was an outstanding success and marked the fourth show The Sunbeam Swingers have produced in three years. Featuring 18 performers of varying ages, genders, and cultures, the diverse lineup added vibrant energy to the performance.

From the show’s profits, donations were made to the Otago Southland Rescue Helicopter Trust and the St James Theatre’s operational costs. Over the past three years, the group has generously supported a variety of community organisations.

With 377 attendees filling the theatre, the atmosphere was warm, enthusiastic, and full of energy. The team at the St James Theatre noted a particularly strong response from the audience and a great night for all involved.

Support from the Hokonui Hauora Fund played a meaningful role in making this event possible, particularly in a year where ticket sales required extra effort due to a crowded events calendar and broader financial pressures. The experience has offered helpful insights for planning future shows, with September 2026 earmarked as a potential new date.

Performers shared how much they appreciated the positive energy in the room, and the joy that live music can bring. The evening was a celebration of connection, creativity, and community.

The Sunbeam Swingers sincerely thank all those who supported the event and acknowledge the generous community funding that helps keep their shows inclusive and enjoyable for everyone.
