Ready for Living Seniors Guide
Ready for Living supports people across the Gore District, particularly older residents, to stay active, connected and independent. With 24 percent of the district’s population aged over 65, the fortnightly Ready for Living Seniors Guide in the Ensign plays an important role in sharing what is available and helping people get involved. The guide promotes social groups, activities and support services, all with the goal of reducing loneliness and encouraging connection. As one organiser shared, “The guide is about creating awareness and getting older people out there attending activities, which is exactly what we set out to do.”
Community response continues to grow, with groups regularly asking to be included, including the RSA Snooker group, Diabetic Support Group, Alzheimer’s Support Group and Hokonui Focus Club. There has also been increased interest in initiatives such as Device Dilemmas at Gore Library, GenConnect Tech Assistance, Fit 4 Function at NRG Gym Gore, and the Gore and Districts Town Walks. The guide is clearly helping people find activities and services that keep them engaged and connected. Support from the Hokonui Hauora Fund helped make multiple publications possible, backing a practical tool that is making a real difference in combating loneliness across the community.
