Plunket Super Saturday
Plunket Super Saturday was a family-focused community event held at the Gore Town and Country Club, offering a relaxed “one-stop shop” where whānau could access child health checks, immunisations, dental and wellness services alongside fun, inclusive activities. With children’s entertainment, shared kai, and space to connect, the day was designed to feel welcoming and non-clinical, especially for families who find weekday appointments difficult. “It was a fantastic day, there were lots of opportunities to connect with families,” one organiser shared. Support from the Hokonui Hauora Fund helped cover venue hire, promotion, and children’s activities, making the day accessible for families.
The event saw over 200 people attend, representing around 80 families, with strong engagement from local whānau, including families who do not regularly connect with services. Bringing multiple providers together in one place reduced barriers to care and supported early connections, follow-ups, and appointments where needed. The venue was busy throughout the day, with collaboration from Plunket staff, volunteers, local organisations, and the Gore Town and Country Club standing out as a real strength. As one staff member noted, “They made connections, appointments, and were very, very happy with the day.”
